About Lake Gaston Collective

The Collective

Lake Gaston Collective was created to make planning a trip to Lake Gaston a little easier — and hopefully involve a little less bouncing between websites, Facebook groups, and recommendations from someone’s cousin who “knows a guy.”

There are great places to stay, restaurants, fishing tournaments, marinas, coffee shops, local businesses, events, and things to do all around the lake. The problem is that the information can be scattered all over the place.

The Collective is meant to bring more of that together in one useful, easy-to-navigate resource.

The goal is to help visitors figure out where to stay, where to eat, what’s happening, how to get on the water, and what else is worth checking out while they’re here.

It’s also about supporting the local property owners, restaurants, guides, marinas, shops, and small businesses that give the Lake Gaston area its character.

The site is still growing, and that’s part of the idea. Rather than trying to become a giant directory overnight, I’d rather build something useful, local, and worth coming back to.

Whether you’re visiting for a family vacation, fishing tournament, wedding, boating weekend, or just a few quiet days by the lake, Lake Gaston Collective is here to make the trip a little easier to plan.

Who’s Behind the Collective

My name is Valentine Castillo, and I created Lake Gaston Collective after spending time at Lake Gaston with my family and hosting visitors at our property in the area.

I’m a family man, dog owner, retired Army veteran, and — somewhat unexpectedly — the recent owner of a pet rabbit. I’m also still working a full-time job, partly to make sure my kids eventually make it out of the house and successfully launch into adulthood.

Somewhere between work, family life, dogs, a rabbit, and time at the lake, I realized I wanted a creative outlet.

Lake Gaston Collective became that outlet.

I was constantly searching for restaurants, fishing tournaments, boating information, local businesses, and recommendations to share with guests. The information was out there, but it was often scattered across websites, Facebook groups, and local pages.

That gave me the idea to create one place where visitors could find useful information about the Lake Gaston region — while also supporting the local property owners, restaurants, guides, marinas, shops, and small businesses that make the area special.

What started as a way to help my own guests has grown into a broader visitor resource, and I’m still figuring it out as I go — which is part of the fun.

Independent Information & Partnerships

Lake Gaston Collective is an independent visitor resource. Businesses, properties, and local services may be included because they’re useful, interesting, or worth knowing about — not because somebody slipped me a twenty at the boat ramp.

As the site grows, some businesses may choose to participate in featured placements, sponsorships, referral partnerships, or other paid opportunities.

If money, freebies, or another commercial relationship is involved in a way that could affect how something is presented, I’ll do my best to make that clear.

The goal is pretty simple: support local businesses and property owners while keeping the site useful and trustworthy for visitors.

Paying to participate may get you more visibility, but it does not buy a glowing review, a guaranteed recommendation, or the title of “Best Thing at Lake Gaston.” That would make this whole thing a lot less useful.

Get in Touch

Have a favorite Lake Gaston restaurant, property, fishing spot, event, marina, or local business you think should be included?

I’d love to hear about it.

You can also reach out if you own a business or short-term rental and want to be considered for Lake Gaston Collective, have an upcoming event to share, or just think I missed something obvious — which is entirely possible.

The easiest way to reach me is through the Lake Gaston Collective Facebook page.

Send Lake Gaston Collective a message on Facebook.

Good recommendations, local tips, and constructive corrections are always welcome. Spam, not so much.
